Mörksugga - ‘The Dark Sow’
Within the dark forests, in the region of Dalarna, Sweden, there dwell mythical creatures that prey on young children who violate their curfew by wandering into said forests at night. The Mörksuggan are said to crunch and eat the bones of erring travelers, as well, for the lakes and forests of the region are many and dense. Does this story sound vaguely familiar to you? Keep reading and you may discover a slight twist.
Eventually, some kind Swedes implored the Mörksugga to end her savage and ferocious ways, and to instead join them in their simple abodes to protect them from things that go bump in the night. Knowing that no creature living would do better at this job, she accepted, for all fear the Dark Sow! To this day, she and her kind sit proudly on fireplace mantels all across the region protecting grateful families and their humble farmsteads from evil.
Mörksugga’s vow is simple. Should a monster stray into your home, she won’t forget her savage ways. She’ll dispatch them with haste and some measure of pleasure.
Our unique interpretation of Mörksugga - ‘The Dark Sow’ is fashioned from a wood base covered with merino wool felt. We have hand sewn ears and added glass eyes and a button for its snout. The tail sports a menacing ‘mace’-like cluster at its tip (of super soft chenille yarn!).
